The CEFR's "basic language user" category's first stage is designated as A1. The student will be able to learn the language's basics at this level, including conjugations, auxiliaries, numbers, etc. Additionally, they will learn how to speak in short, simple sentences about familiar subjects like their families and how to start communicating with others by posing and responding to straightforward questions.
The CEFR's second "basic language user" stage is designated as A2. The student will be able to continue working on sentence construction and learn new grammar rules at this level. We'll introduce past tenses like the passé composé and the imparfait. Beginning to read and comprehend brief texts will be possible for the pupil. As long as it is brief, easy to understand, and on subjects they have studied, exchanging with others will get easier.
The CEFR's category for "independent language users" begins at the B1 level. At this level, the student will have the opportunity to practise difficult grammar concepts like connectives and learn new tenses like conditionnel and subjonctif. As long as the dialogue is slow enough, clear enough, and about subjects the student is familiar with, this will enable the student to take part in and comprehend the key points of a longer conversation. Longer texts in the language will also be accessible to them.
The second stage of the CEFR's "independent language user" category is the B2 level. The student will be able to practise difficult grammatical concepts like complex relative pronouns at this level. The student should now be comfortable with all of the tenses before more advanced tenses are introduced (such as passé simple and subjonctif passé). They ought to be able to watch TV without too many interruptions or engage in a casual discussion with a French native speaker. Additionally, they will be able to comprehend challenging literature, articulate their opinions on a variety of subjects, and construct sophisticated arguments.
The CEFR's "proficient language user" category's first stage is designated as C1. The learner will be able to comprehend a speech or conversation at this level even if its organization is hazy or heavily dependent on "implicit meaning." They will have the ability to talk fluently and nimbly, almost like a native speaker.
The second stage of the "proficient language user" category on the CEFR is the C2 level. The learner should be capable of reading, comprehending, and writing any kind of material at this level, including specialized literature like academic papers. They will be able to communicate just as effectively as a native speaker.
